About the Artist

Only when I am painting am I able to express myself fully.  For as long as I can remember, not only have I felt different but I have felt separate from everyone else. Painting is my connection to the world. It is the most honest and spiritual thing I do and sometimes my paintings become so personal for me it is difficult for me to judge them independently. So I made a promise to myself to share them anyway. For the good or bad, here they are.

My work, for me, is a bridge between the physical and the non-physical, between this dimension and whatever else exists without and within. It is due to these aspects of my art that elements of the real and physical and the completely abstract may both appear in my paintings, independently or together in one work. This is an integral part of my seeking of the mystery and despite the fact that many art critics believe todays artists should create more "cohesive" (their term for repetitive) bodies of work I refuse to give up this aspect of my creativity. I am multi-faceted and so, therefore, is my work.

I use many different mediums in my art. Anything that can be made archival and lasting may show up in my work as part of the work itself or more often, as a tool used to create it. I frequently use non-traditional objects to create texture and build paint on my canvas or paper such as credit cards (one of my favorites, a much better use for them than what they were originally created for), pieces of discarded metal or wood and scraps of fabric. I once tried to limit myself to just one or two painting mediums and brushes only but I quickly discovered it was just too restrictive for the way I work. Most of my art follows an intuitive path so the tools and paints I used needed to do the same.

My current work is quite different from where I started fifteen years ago. Recently, I have noticed my work becoming more and more abstract and I am quite enjoying this change. I am on a journey without a destination and if I can connect to even a few others along the way, I feel I have succeeded.
